A ‘sit-and-reach box’ or a bench with a ruler.

Testing method

1. Allow the subject to fully warm up and stretch before the start of the test.

2. The subject’s legs should be fully extended with the feet (no shoes) flat against the vertical surface of the box.

3. With one hand placed over the other (palms down, arms straight, fingers outstretched), the subject should lean forward as far as possible, sliding their hand along the ruler of the sit-and-reach box.

4. The maximal distance the fingers reach is measured.

5. The subject must keep their hands together and should not lead with one hand.

6. Repeat several times and record the best score.
